Ferrari Horse

The prancing Ferrari Horse The emblem of Ferrari is its black prancing horse on yellow ground and labeled with the acronym SF meaning „Scuderia Ferrari“. The horse used originally to be the symbol of Baron Francesco Baracca, a flying ace of the Italian air force back in World War I. He was shot down on June 19, 1918 after 34 dogfight victories and became soon a national hero. He let the horse to be painted on his airplanes as at this time the air force used to be a unit of the cavalry. The units of Enzo Ferraris’ brother Dino, who also battled and died in World War I beard also the prancing horse. As template for our Ferrari sculpture we used a small figure made of bronze. Additional we measured the dimensions of a friend’s horse in order to get the correct numbers. Although the final sculpture is 4 m tall - it still thrones stable, mounted on its socket.
